Cholistan Desert Camel Safari

Locally known as “Rohi”, the Cholistan Desert, located about 30 kms from Bahawalpur, is a vast stretch of barren land covering an area of 26,300 km² bordering Thar Desert in Sindh which extends to India. The term Cholistan is derived from a Turkic word “Cho” which literally means desert where people live a semi-nomadic life moving from place to place with their livestock in search of food and water for themselves and animals. Lifestyle of the people of Cholistan is quite interesting. Isolated from the outside influence the culturally rich and self-subsistent people of Cholistan are very good at arts and crafts including textiles, camel products, leather work, and jewelry.

This exclusive tour follows most of the trail treaded by Sufi saints who came to the subcontinent from Persia, Afghanistan, and Central Asia to preach Islam and also introduced architecture which can be seen in most of ancient buildings associated with Muslims faith in the form of schools, masjids, shrines, and forts. One of the objectives of this tour is the desert camel safari in Cholistan around the marvelous 9^th century Derawar Fort standing 30 m high in a 1500m circumference which speaks for itself.

This trip also covers some interesting sightseeing in Lahore, visit of majestic shrines around Multan, exploring ancient sites at Harrapa and sightseeing of Karachi and Islamabad.
